The Sowell name is English and is either a descendant of Sewal "victory, strength" or one whose
ancestor came from Sewell "seven wells," the name of towns in Bedfordshire & Oxfordshire, England.
They landed in South Carolina and migrated mostly in the South & Southwest. There are more Sowell's
in Texas than in any other state. The only survivor of the Alamo massicure was a Sowell, a courier for
General Sam Houston, who had left just 10 minutes before the attack. He later served as a Colonel in the
Confederate Army commanding Fort Pillow in West Tennesee. Sowell's are Lawyers, Doctors, Dentist,
Sheriffs, Brick layers, Solders, Ranchers, Farmers, Musicians, entrepreneurs and yes, some are crooks.
There's only four Sowell's in Canada. Guess who they are? Mandy, Robby & Chris and their Mom, Mary.
